Explore George Vondriska and Paul Mayer's chemical resistance test
George Vondriska with Woodworkers Guild of America and Paul Mayer of ToolMetrix performed a chemical resistance test using Aqua Coat waterborne Clear Lacquer and waterborne Aqua Thane. George knows how important woodworking projects are and the finishes that are applied to them. George tested highly acidic products such as lemon juice, grain alcohol, coffee, ketchup, mustard, vinegar and orange juice on Aqua Coat topcoats to see how they performed. The test George administered is the same one that is done through KCMA (Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association). After letting most of these acidic products sit for over 24 hours, they were impressed at the chemical resistance results. This experiment showed how Aqua Coat's waterborne finishes are as durable as solvent based and how the finishes held up under pretty extreme conditions.
